December 7, 2010; Phoenix, Arizona: PING pro Maria Hjorth’s fourth career victory came with a bag full of PING’s most recent club introductions, including the new K15™ driver and 3-wood, the company announced today.
Hjorth earned a one-shot win at the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship where she also played S56™ irons, three Tour-S™ Rustique wedges and a Scottsdale™ Pickemup® putter – all of which were introduced earlier this fall, along with the K15 Series.
The win marked the 14th worldwide for the S56 irons and the sixth for the new Scottsdale Putter Series. Tour-S wedges have been in the bags of five winners, including British Open champion and PING pro Louis Oosthuizen.
“The continued success of our newest product brings us great satisfaction,” said PING Chairman & CEO John Solheim. “This year has been unequalled in our history on Tours around the world as our staff has performed remarkably well. Product validation at the highest levels is important to our goal of growing our reputation as a leader in innovation and technology.”
For Hjorth, a native of Sweden and four-time Solheim Cup participant, it was her first victory in three years. It was also her first since the birth of her 1-year-old daughter, Emily. After holing a downhill, 8-foot putt for par on the final hole at Orlando’s Grand Cypress Resort to ensure the win, Hjorth was first greeted by Emily.
“Every win is emotional for me,” said Hjorth, who collected $225,000 for the victory. “But being a mother and coming back after giving birth is definitely something that I’ve been hoping for. It’s nice to prove that it’s possible.”
