ORLANDO, Fla. (Dec. 10, 2010) – Golfweek – the publication preferred by serious golfers – has just released its annual Golfweek’s Best Casino Courses list as part of its December 10-17 issue. Marking the fifth year the magazine has conducted this ranking, the 2010 list features the top 50 golf and gaming destinations across the United States.
Once again, Shadow Creek Golf Course (Las Vegas, Nev.), Fallen Oak (Saucier, Miss.) and We-Ko-Pa Golf Club’s Saguaro (Fountain Hills, Ariz.) take the top three spots on the list, followed by Barona Creek Golf Club (Lakeside, Calif.), French Lick Resort’s Pete Dye Course (French Lick, Ind.) and Cascata (Henderson, Nev.).
“With 17 states represented among our top-50 casino courses, this is an amazingly diverse list not just geographically, but also generationally,” said Bradley S. Klein, national director of Golfweek’s Best Courses ratings program. “Tom Fazio, the most modern of designers, has the two leading layouts on our roster, but four of these courses are the original handiwork of classic-era stalwarts. William S. Flynn’s Atlantic City Country Club, amended by Tom Doak, ranks No. 7; Charles Blair Macdonald and Seth Raynor’s Old White Course at The Greenbrier sits at No. 8; Donald Ross’ French Lick Resort-Donald Ross Course ranks No. 12; and Perry Maxwell’s Cherokee Hills Golf Club comes in at No. 36.”
To produce Golfweek’s Best Courses lists, a nationwide team of course raters – which currently boasts more than 600 evaluators – surveys more than 2,200 courses on the basis of 10 criteria, including routing, conditioning, variety and memorability of holes. The result is an average of scores that then dictates a course’s overall ranking.
