MILTON, GA -White Columns Country Club recently hosted a charity Golf Tournament on November 7th, 2010. This is Heritage Golf Group’s 7th event for the year. Birdies for the Brave is a nationwide program launched by the U.S. Department of Defense that generates financial support for our for military homefront groups that directly serve military men and women lost or seriously injured in performance of their duty. Birdies for the Brave is a primary element of Heritage Golf Group’s philanthropic endeavors.
White Columns Country Club hosted the charity Golf Tournament on Sunday, November 7th which culminated with a dinner, awards ceremony and silent auction following play, raising over $35,000. The Birdies for the Brave event featured keynote speaker First Lieutenant Joseph Caley, Wounded Warrior. “I thank you for inviting us to your beautiful course. The four of us had a great time and we really enjoyed our playing partners,” said 1LT Joe Caley, Wounded Warrior. “I hope to expand my pet project of adaptive golf for Wounded Soldiers and I know events such as Birdies for the Brave, and the ability for Soldiers to step foot on a course with knowledgeable and super friendly members and players, is a big bonus. I know that for SSG Gibson and SGT Cole, this was their first time playing golf and they are now hooked!”
Also in attendance at the Birdies for the Brave event were a number of key personnel from the military, namely 32 soldiers from the Air Force and Army and four Wounded Warriors, as well as distinguished guests Eric Franssens (Navy Seal) and representatives from four of the charity homefront groups. In addition, the charity golf event featured a spectacular show of five paratroopers landing on the driving range.

Without the support from our entire community, this event would not be a success.”
Heritage Golf Group’s collection of premier clubs nationwide will continue to raise funds throughout 2010, during nine charity golf tournaments, silent auctions, and accompanying fundraising activities. Since 2007, Heritage Golf Group has held over twenty-one Birdies for the Brave golf tournaments with accompanying auction galas, which raised over $1.3 million.
Proceeds from these events will benefit eight military homefront groups that are supported by PGA TOUR players, including: Homes For Our Troops and Special Operations Warrior Foundation supported by Phil Mickelson; Wounded Warrior Project supported by TOUR players Nick Watney, Boo Weekley, Jason Gore & Frank Lickliter II; Operation Homefront supported by TOUR player Corey Pavin; Naval Special Warfare
Foundation supported by TOUR players Jerry Kelly, Frank Lickliter II & Vijay Singh; Military Warriors Support Foundation supported by TOUR player Ted Purdy; Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund and United Through Reading supported by TOUR player Rory Sabbatini.
