Spaniard Martin and South African Schwartzel finish first and second
BEAVERTON, OR (December 13, 2010) – The Nike Swoosh dominated the weekend at the European PGA (EPGA) Tour’s season opener with Pablo Martin’s successful defense of his Alfred Dunhill Championship title and fellow Nike athlete Charl Schwartzel’s tied for second place finish.
Martin benefitted from his red-hot Nike Method 004 putter, evidenced by his second-place ranking in putts per round in the field. The Nike Method putter, which first became available to consumers in February 2010, already has won a total of 15 professional tournaments around the world, including two major championships on the PGA Tour.
The revolutionary new Method putter was born out of innovation and fueled by the demands of Nike athletes. The polymetal groove technology provides a faster, positive forward roll at impact for the kind of accuracy and consistency Tour professionals demand.
The young Spaniard also had a bag-full of Nike VR products to assist him to his second EPGA Tour victory. He used the VR Tour driver and Nike’s new VR Pro Combo irons. Martin also used the Nike ONE Tour ball and wore Nike Golf apparel, as well as the new Nike Zoom TW 2011 shoe.
Schwartzel, a five-time winner on the EPGA Tour, also performed with a full bag of Nike Golf equipment, wore Nike Golf apparel and the new Nike Lunar Control shoe.
