Leading junior golf company moves up 131 places among Franchise 500
El Segundo, CA, – With a mission to provide all American youth with the opportunity to learn the game of golf in a fun and educational environment, through a unique franchise business model, Los Angeles based TGA – Premier Junior Golf, has been selected among the “Top 10 Best Franchise Deals” by Entrepreneur, one of the leading business publications in the country. In addition, the junior golf company moved up 131 places on the publications annual Franchise 500.
The Entrepreneur annual Franchise 500 is published in the January 2011 issue. The Top 10 Best Franchise Deals are determined according to total startup costs of less then $20,000 among the rankings of the Franchise 500.
To be eligible for the Entrepreneur Franchise 500® ranking, a franchise company must have a minimum of 10 units with at least one based in the U.S. It must be seeking new franchisees in the U.S., and it cannot be in Chapter 11 at the time the ranking is compiled. All companies, regardless of size, are judged by the same criteria: objective, quantifiable measures of a franchise operation. The most important factors include financial strength and stability, growth rate and size of the system.
“TGA decided to Franchise our unique business model because of the lack of business ownership opportunities within the golf industry for entrepreneurs along with Golf Professionals. TGA provides a turnkey business solution for anybody with a passion for golf, kids and their community to be able to own a business and earn a living while growing the game with a strong National brand,” said TGA founder and CEO Joshua Jacobs said. “Being recognized by Entrepreneur Magazine through our jump of 131 spots and being named as one of ten “Top Franchise Deals” further solidifies how our youth development business is an exciting and financially viable opportunity.”
Joshua’s passion for growing the game of golf began in Los Angeles, California in the fall of 2003, where he started TGA-Premier Junior Golf as an overnight golf camp, which morphed into a successful business to introduce children of all backgrounds into the game directly through the schools.
“I have always believed that the best way to grow the game of golf was to bring it directly to the schools and provide an affordable and accessible program for the future. We are doing that successfully with TGA, not only with bringing more kids and families to the game and creating a fun and safe learning environment for parents and the schools, but also as a unique business opportunity for entrepreneurs, said Jacobs.”
One of the reasons the TGA business is very successful is because the programs are adaptable to any sized space and have been conducted anywhere, including fields, gymnasiums, multi-purpose rooms, cafeterias, parking lots, hallways and classrooms.
Another major selling point to the TGA program and why schools and parents are attracted to it is that it eliminates golf’s traditional barriers to entry – accessibility and cost, as well as the programs taking place after school during the prime at-risk time period for students.
“The TGA program was built on the premise that children should have the opportunity to learn golf in an affordable, effective, convenient and fun manner. When we became a franchise company, we developed our business model on these same principles,” said Steve Tanner, National Program Director and COO TGA Premier Junior Golf. “Ultimately, our job is to provide franchises with the tools to be successful and we’re fortunate to have so many franchise owners who put their hearts and souls into TGA and thus get out of it what they put in. A TGA franchise is a cost-effective opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs to own a business that positively impacts their community and grows the game of golf while making money.”
TGA franchise operators around the country are experiencing first hand how this low cost start up is a successful business opportunity.
Michael Riccardi, who first became a TGA owner in 2008 in New Jersey, recognized quickly the great business opportunity that TGA offered and soon added a second franchise.
“I started with TGA a year and a half ago and recognized quickly that this was a great opportunity, not only as a successful business, but also to grow the game of golf for the future and working with young kids in developing the education and life skills associated with the programs.” said Riccardi.
Champ Detamore, owner of a TGA franchise in Charlotte, North Carolina, has taken his low cost investment and turned it into the largest TGA territory in the country in just four years.
“To be recognized by Entrepreneur is a true testament to what Joshua and Steve provide franchisees when starting up, said Detamore. “We have been very fortunate in Charlotte to become the No. 1 territory for TGA Franchises across the country, and I can honestly say that would not have been possible without the support, guidance, and opportunities that the TGA franchise model has provided. As a PGA Professional I couldn’t be more proud of what we have accomplished in this time period from both a business aspect and growing the game of golf.”
Obtaining a TGA franchise and establishing a territory is a full turnkey solution. Franchise fees, which depend on the number of people in the territory and average household income, average between $16,000 and $20,000 with some as low as $6,000 and others up to $35,000, depending on the affluence of the area.
“TGA’s franchised business model has created a wide variety of job opportunities for people who enjoy working with children and families in a business venture that provides a unique entry into youth sports, education, and the golf industry,” said Jacobs. “To grow the game and open successful businesses during these economic times are a true testament to the last seven years of running this business.”
