I cordially invite you to join me for the 8th annual “State of the Industry” presentation at the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show in the Orange County Convention Center. This year’s discussion will be hosted by the International Network of Golf (ING) and held in their ClubING conference room, 309A & B on Friday, January 28th. We’ll have two sessions again this year: 10:30-11:30AM and 3:30-4:30PM. Both sessions will have a 30 minute question-and-answer period following the presentation. I will be joined in preparing and conducting the discussion by perennial cohort in crime, Stuart Lindsay, Principal of Edgehill Golf Advisors. We’re pleased to again partner with ING which is an organization dedicated to “enhancing and promoting communication and education in the golf industry” and is comprised of a variety of golf writers, equipment manufacturers and advertising entities.
Key topics of this year’s discussion will be:
• 2010 facility revenue results, down but how much due to rounds vs. rate?
• 2010 Utilization, rounds down but did we use our factories more efficiently?
• 2009 golfer base, up or down, are they more or less involved than in 2008?
• 2010 supply changes, net negative but now not keeping up with rounds decline
• 2010 equipment sales, down but loss decelerating, was it “the year of the wedge”?
• Facility profitability still under siege, revenue drops/expense escalation/financing challenges
• 2011, will it be the tipping point for facility transactions?
• Customer Franchise Analysis benchmarks, retention, acquisition & defector rates
• Voice of the Customer/Local Golfer survey benchmarks, what matters to golfers
• “Institutional Mediocrity” Part II, getting only what we demand from frontline employees
• What we learned about discounting in 2010 from GolfNow to Groupon
Similar to last year’s two gatherings of just under 200 total known Pellucid sympathizers and guests, we anticipate a lively give-and-take discussion. Attendees have also found opportunities to renew old acquaintances at this gathering of the intellectually curious. While not yet finalized, we anticipate that the PGA will once again agree to 1 MSR educational credit for PGA professionals attending and providing their member number! Space is limited and it would help our planning if participants would RSVP to me (jimk@pellucidcorp.com) and indicate a session preference by 1/24/11 if you’re planning to attend. For organizations with multiple interested attendees we ask that you limit the number of guests at any one session to 5 or less to give as many individuals as possible access to both discussions (thanks). Similar to last year, electronic versions of the presentation will be available to purchase on portable drive at the conclusion. For those attending only the GIS Show this year, unfortunately we won’t be conducting a presentation due to an inability to find an acceptable date/time within the NGCOA show constraints. We’ll send details later on how GIS attendees can get access to the PGA Show discussion.
As always, our primary objective is to produce insight value worthy of your one hour time investment. We hope to see you there.
Regards,
Jim Koppenhaver
President, Pellucid Corp.
