BLOOMFIELD HILLS – After more than two decades as one of the nation’s premier golf public relations firms and adviser to the golf industry, Dave Richards and his Resort & Golf Company are expanding their services to include real estate and property tax management.
Richards today announced his latest client, Hospitality Asset Advisors, LLC, a national property tax and project management firm whose managing partner, Timothy J. Miscovich, is based in Clarkston and Orlando.
“Teaming up with Tim and his company is a natural and comfortable move to diversify our traditional role in the golf industry,” Richards said. “Tim’s client list of Golf Clubs, resorts and hospitality properties already overlaps with some of ours. Going forward we can work together to expand the variety of services we will offer clients.”
Since June 2004, Miscovich has been responsible for building and managing a firm that now operates in nine locations in seven states including Michigan. The company has annual revenues exceeding $1 million and its portfolio lists 250 hotels across the country. In the area of real estate tax appeals, Miscovich’s firm has recovered more than $7 million in annual savings on client’s property taxes.
The firm also works with clients to secure real estate development incentives, zoning changes, developing new construction budgets, completing new construction and lease audits, and negotiating with vendors and tax authorities on new construction projects. By getting involved in the early stages of a construction projects, Miscovich and his firm are able to add millions of dollars in benefits by securing the proper tax levels for the properties before they come on line.
“We have always worked behind the scenes with our clients and have never had a public relations firm publicize the special services we offer,” Miscovich said. “Several years ago Dave recommended us to his club, Oakhurst Golf & Country Club for whom we successfully obtained significant tax relief.”
Miscovich said with today’s lagging economy driving down values golf properties are most likely paying too much in property taxes.
“Dave’s company is like ours, behind-the-scenes specialists who really understand the hospitality part of our business which makes them a natural fit with us,” he said. “There are a lot of people out there leaving money on the table and Resort & Golf can get the word out for us.”
The national corporate client list for Hospitality Asset Advisors include Apex Corporation, Simon Konover Companies, RLJ Development, White Lodging Services, White Peterman Properties, Emperian Property Management, Focus Enterprises, and Brighton-based Ospery Management whose properties include Michigan golf resorts and commercial real estate in Troy, Florida, and North Carolina.
Miscovich has worked successfully on property tax relief for more than a dozen prominent public and private golf clubs and resorts across Michigan as well as hundreds of commercial real estate properties around the country.
Over the years Richards has assisted course owners and architects on more than 150 projects, introducing them to the public and bringing in top national and international golf writers and editors to review the properties. His efforts led directly to national awards for dozens of courses, as well as career-building publicity for then up and coming architects and designers such as Tom Doak, Rick Smith, John Sanford, Raymond Hearn and others.
He is credited with making Michigan one of the nation’s top golf destinations. In the lead-up to the 2004 Ryder Cup matches at Oakland Hills Country Club, the state’s Travel Michigan program selected Richards’ company, now known as Resort & Golf Marketing, to be the official public relations company to publicize the matches.
Richards’ campaign to woo international and national writers, editors, and media movers and shakers to Detroit and Michigan produced stories and photographs in news outlets across the country and around the world valued at more than $10 million and reaching 42 million consumers.
