Former 2000 NCAA champion and PGA Tour Rookie of the Year will play Mizuno JPX 800 Pro irons and MP T-11 wedges
Norcross, GA (January 13, 2011) – Mizuno USA, Inc. announced today its signing of two-time PGA Tour Winner Charles Howell III, the Georgia native raised near Augusta National and currently one of the Tour’s renown ball strikers and consistent performers. The multi-year deal will see Howell playing Mizuno equipment, starting this week with the JPX-800 PRO irons and MP T-11 wedges featuring Quad-Cut Grooves; as well as representing the brand during events by wearing its headwear and using its staff bag.
“Charles is recognized on Tour as a true gentleman and a great ambassador for the game of golf,” said Dick Lyons, Vice President and General Manager of the Golf Division, Mizuno USA. “His character is second to none, and we’re proud to have him represent the Mizuno brand.”
Following a high-profile amateur career dating back to his childhood, Howell burst on to the golf scene as the 2000 NCAA National Champion and NCAA All American while at Oklahoma State University, followed by a PGA Tour campaign that same year that earned him Rookie-of-the-Year honors. While Howell’s most recent Tour victory came in 2007 at the Nissan Open, his consistency is his calling card, once again on display in 2010, registering 6 top-ten and 11 top-25 finishes.
“While I’m always happy to be consistent in finishing high up the leader board, I believe my best golf is still ahead of me,” said Howell. “My complete confidence in the performance and precision of my JPX 800 Pro irons and MP T-11 wedges will go a long way for me in my commitment to winning during the 2011 season.”
Howell’s use of the JPX-800 PRO irons truly exemplifies Mizuno’s unique ability to design clubs that can offer solutions to players at every level of the game. Designed for forgiveness, distance, and feel, the new JPX-800 PRO™ features the highest COR ever developed in a legendary Mizuno one-piece Grain Flow Forged™ iron. A large cavity is created using a CNC cavity milling process which thins the face to raise ball speeds for maximum distance, and optimizes a low, deep center of gravity for increased forgiveness on less than perfect shots.
Howell’s MP T-11 wedges combine Mizuno’s patented Grain Flow Forged™ feel with a Tour proven head shape and sole to provide unmatched precision in the short game. The MP T-11™ wedges are Grain Flow Forged from 1025E “Pure Select” mild carbon steel to provide the most soft, solid and consistent feel available, while an innovative 360° grind and thinner top line deliver maximum shot making versatility and control.
