University of Hawaii will host the top collegiate golfers in the game
Waikoloa, Hawaii – The top collegiate golfers in the country are returning to the Big Island Feb. 1-4 and amateur golfers will have an opportunity to compete with them in one of the most prestigious United States collegiate golf events.
Waikoloa Beach Resort, a GOLF Magazine Silver Medal Resort destination located on the beautiful Kohala Coast of Hawaii’s Big Island, will host the prestigious UH-HILO Men’s College Golf Tournament. The highly acclaimed event kicks-off on February 1 with a unique college-am event with amateurs, followed by a 3-day, 54-hole team competition February 2-4.
Amateurs will surely be excited to participate in this event, teeing it up with some of the top collegiate golfers in the country. The format of the event will pair four amateurs with two collegiate players. The collegiate players will play their own ball and count three scores on each hole – one best ball gross score from the two college players, plus the two best net scores of the four amateur players, which will determine the team score.
The cost to participate in one of the country’s premier college golf events is $500.00 per person or $2,000.00 per four-person team. Green fees, prize package, lunch, and awards dinner are included. Proceeds from the event will benefit the University of Hawaii golf program.
The prestigious UH-HILO Tournament traditionally has one of the strongest fields in Division I, attracting top college golf teams, as well as elite players like Tiger Woods and Ricky Fowler for the past 21 years.
This year is no different as Waikoloa Beach Resort is set to host four out of the “Top 10” schools in the country including the No. 1 ranked UCLA Bruins and No. 2 ranked Oklahoma State, as well as Georgia Tech (5th) and Texas (7th). Other top schools participating include University of Hawaii, Arizona State University, Oregon State University, Texas Christian University, Texas Tech University, University of Colorado, University of Southern California, and the University of Washington.

Designed by former British Open champion Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish, the Kings’ Course at Waikoloa Beach Resort offers these elite golfers and amateurs the best of two worlds – golf on an island paradise, on a course that more closely resembles a layout along the coast of Scotland. Stunning views of the towering volcanoes of the Big Island are framed by palm trees and vibrant flowers, highlighting the 7,000-plus yard links-style course. The layout meanders over and around an ancient lava flow and is best known for its wide undulating fairways, multiple tee placements, and challenging pot bunkers.
