‘Top Modern Golf Course in Wales’ Joins Growing List of Honors for Ryder Cup Venue
(NEWPORT, Wales) – The Celtic Manor Resort – host of golf’s 2010 Ryder Cup and premier luxury retreat less than two hours outside London – announces its Twenty Ten Course has again been named the top modern design in Wales by Golfweek.
The accolade comes after a banner year for the Twenty Ten and Celtic Manor as both were lauded for hosting what many have called the “greatest ever” Ryder Cup. The Twenty Ten was ranked No. 18 among all Great Britain and Ireland courses built since 1960 by Golfweek. Celtic Manor was recently named Europe’s “Golf Resort of the Year” by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO). The five-star destination was also heralded as the U.K.’s best conference hotel for the fourth straight year.
“Adding to our ever-growing list of awards and acclaim, we’re once again thrilled to be named the top modern course in Wales,” says Dylan Matthews, Chief Executive of Celtic Manor. “The Ryder Cup showcased the Twenty Ten and our first-class resort to the world-at-large and we’re excited so many visitors now have us on their itineraries for 2011.”
Celtic Manor’s wide array of amenities includes two other championship courses (Roman Road and The Montgomerie), state-of-the-art fitness center and world-class spa. In 2010, Celtic Manor acquired Newbridge on Usk – a charming, historic six-room country inn adding to its roster of award-winning accommodations and restaurants. The resort’s 1,400-plus acres of panoramic parkland and wooded hills include miles of hiking trails.
Says Matthews, “Though it’s only January, we’ve already received a record number of advanced bookings from people who want to come enjoy a stay at Celtic Manor and have a go at the famous Twenty Ten.”
