Meadowlands CC Is First Club To Host Both Of GolfStyles’ Premiere Competitions

BLUE BELL, Pa. — (January 18, 2011) – For the first time since GolfStyles magazine has been holding competitive events in the Philadelphia area, both of its premiere competitions will be hosted at the same venue in 2011. Meadowlands Country Club, the 61-year-old private country club in Blue Bell, will host the Solstice Survival on Monday, June 20 and the GolfStyles Cup Qualifier on Monday, July 18.

The Solstice Survival is the 54-hole, dawn-to-dusk, stroke play, badge-of-courage event that attracts a full field each year. GolfStyles holds a number of Solstice Survivals up and down the East Coast every year, but this will be the only event in the Philadelphia area.

The GolfStyles Cup is a Ryder Cup-style competition between two teams of elite players, one from the Greater Philadelphia area and one from the area around Washington, D.C. A 36-hole qualifying tournament is held to determine the players on each team who will represent their region. The teams will then play for the GolfStyles Cup at Bulle Rock in Havre de Grace, Maryland in October.

“We are very proud to be selected to host these two GolfStyles competitions,” said Gilbert Benjamin, president of Meadowlands CC. “Both events have excellent traditions and attract some of the finest, as well as the fittest players in the region. We are happy to host them at Meadowlands.

“Hosting these kinds of events is part of our mantra to help promote the game of golf,” continued Benjamin. “It’s good for our club, because we constantly want to underscore the fact that we are an active part of the golf community. Also, it is good for the game because it gives players who might not normally get to play Meadowlands the opportunity to experience a new venue.”

Meadowlands also has been very active in hosting Philadelphia Section PGA events and Golf Association of Philadelphia amateur events in recent years.
