SUNRISE, Fla. (Jan. 26, 2011) – It may not be nice to fool Mother Nature, but predicting her next move is greatly appreciated by PGA Professionals, superintendents, course operators and millions of golfers. Thor Guard introduces two services for 2011 to help golf facilities and their members monitor the potential for lightning and threatening weather conditions.
The Sunrise, Fla.-based company, which has provided reliable and accurate weather forecasts and lightning prediction alerts for more than 30 years, is introducing the Thor Guard Weather Club and Thor Guard Weather Desktop. The proprietary software programs provide the golf market’s most accurate and cost-effective analysis of current and long-range forecasts, local and regional radar along with up-to-the-second data that automatically enable audible alerts throughout the course.
“No other weather product offers comprehensive weather information on the same screen at the same time with the speed that these services provide,” said Thor Guard President Robert Dugan.
The Weather Club product was installed earlier this year by the Chicago District Golf Association to provide real-time weather information to its 400 member facilities. “Weather obviously plays a big part in the enjoyment of the game. Being able to provide our members the current weather conditions before they tee off is a service they appreciate,” said Robert Markionni, the association’s executive director.
The service is now available to golfers and staff on all GHIN computers located at USGA member facilities.
The weather forecasting service interfaces with the Thor Guard Lightning Prediction system to give real-time access to the world’s largest lightning prediction network. Thor Guard Lightning Prediction evaluates the dynamics of electrical energy within the atmosphere and uses remote horns and strobe lights to warn golfers and course staff of potential strikes.
