Sanibel Island, Florida: The Sanctuary Golf Club on Sanibel Island, Florida, was recognized as one of only two Boardroom Magazine – Emerald Club Award – recipients out of more than 10,000 private clubs around the world eligible for such designation. The Emerald Club Award Program was founded in 2009 by the Boardroom Magazine and the Association of Private Clubs and Directors as a way of recognizing those private club employees, departments and programs that are elevating the bar in their respective areas of expertise.
The Boardroom Magazine hand-selected an independent panel of “Industry Experts” representing the various aspects of private club operations to review all of the award entries and nominations. All entries required supporting materials reflecting key elements critical for success in each of the award categories.
In order to be eligible for the Emerald Club Award distinction, the club had to submit and receive back ten or more Awards of Distinction in the seventeen award categories which included: Junior Golf Program, Wine Program, Club Governance, Club’s Green Initiative (ie Environmental Sensitivity), Locker Room, Special Events, Weddings, Course Maintenance, Clubhouse, Merchandising, Swim/Pool Program, Tennis Program, Membership Program, Menu, Spa/Fitness, Regatta’s and the Open Category.
“It is a tremendous honor for the Club and for its employees to receive such recognition; the award signifies to us that as a team we are working very hard every day to deliver world class service to our members and their guests” stated Ken Kouril, The Sanctuary’s General Manager and Chief Operating Officer.
The Chairman of the Boardroom Magazine, Mr. John Fornaro, reiterated Mr. Kouril’s sentiments when he congratulated The Sanctuary on their achievement, “The Sanctuary should be very proud; this Club is incorporating ideas that are on the leading edge of private club thinking and management. This industry is typically slow to change. The DCA was set up to showcase those private clubs that are looking at things from a different angle, and instituting new ideas into their club departments and programs; thereby, creating added value for their members. The Sanctuary received the Emerald Club highest level of distinction because they are exceeding expectations in every category for which they submitted an award nomination. Congratulations to staff and members of The Sanctuary on a job well done”
The Club will be further recognized at the annual Boardroom Magazine awards banquet at the Industry Golf Show in February 2011.
