ORLANDO, FL (January 27, 2011) – Winners were announced and presented in 11 categories Thursday in the 18th Annual ING Media Awards. The presentations took place in ClubING, the ING Hospitality Room, at the PGA Merchandise Show in the Orange County Convention Center.
Katharine Dyson and Tony Leodora each won two first-place awards in the contest. Dyson won the Apparel Writing Category for her piece “Summer Fashions For 2010” in Ocean State Golf, and also took top honors in the Competition Writing Category for her story on WorldGolf.com called “What Makes The Masters So Special.”
Leodora took first place in two electronic media categories from his work in the Philadelphia area. His radio show, Golf Talk Live, won the Radio Category for the second time in the past three years for his show from the Golf.Com World Amateur in Myrtle Beach. His TV show, Inside Golf on Comcast Sports, won for the episode “Woodloch Resort in the Poconos.”
The International Network Of Golf is a 21-year-old, non-profit, media-based networking organization whose mission is to enhance and promote communication and education in golf. The group conducts two meetings each year in the spring and fall, where media and industry leaders gather to discuss issues, launch and test new products, and develop relationships.
Media Awards results are determined by three independent judges in each category. Judges use a set of criteria to compare entries, without knowledge (except in the electronic categories) of which media member did the work.
Other ING Media Award winners included John Feinstein for his book “Moment Of Glory – The Year The Underdogs Ruled Golf,” Jimmy Roberts in the Opinion Writing Category for “Winter of Discontent,” which appeared in MET Golfer Magazine; Adam Schupak, Golfweek for his Profile piece “I Took So Much For Granted;” and John Steinbreder, Global Golf Post for his Travel Writing entry, “The World Of Golf In One Place.”
The ING Media Awards program was sponsored by Golfpac Travel, Gustbuster/Sunbuster, PGA Golf Exhibitions, TaylorMade Golf and Wilson Golf.
The ING’s next meeting will be its 21st Annual ING Spring Conference at PGA Tour site Innisbrook Resort May 22-26. For details, visit www.inggolf.com, or call 407-328-0500.
