Sanibel Island, Florida: The Sanctuary Golf Club on Sanibel Island, Florida, played host to one of the wine industry’s biggest names two nights ago. As the featured guest of Sanctuary member Ms. Diane Smith, Giglio who is a regular columnist for Food and Wine Magazine and has published over ten books on the subject including Food & Wine Magazine’s Wine Guide, Cocktails in New York and Mr. Boston Official Bartender’s Guide to name a few, was asked to speak to the group, and to pair wines for a delectable five course dinner prepared by the club’s Award Winning Executive Chef Mark Brown.
“To be fair, visiting The Sanctuary and having the opportunity to taste Chef Brown’s culinary handiwork was the greatest incentive of all; I merely had the privilege of selecting a few nice bottles that further brought out the potpourri of tastes from his creations”, stated Giglio. High praise indeed from a man who travels more than 100,000 miles per year sampling wines from around the globe. “The Sanctuary is a special place built around an amazing ecological setting. Sanibel and Captiva provide the island feel with all of the convenience of being on the mainland,” continued Giglio.
The dinner featured a number of classic vintners including the 2009 Pine Ridge Chenin Blanc (Viognier, California), the 2008 LaCrema Pinot Noir (North Coast, California), the NV7 Cain Cuvee (Napa Valley) and the 2006 II Nero Di Casanova La Spinetta, Sangiovese (Toscana, Italy). The evening was a big success as Giglio promised his host, guests and Chef Brown a speedy return to The Sanctuary on Sanibel Island.
