ORLANDO, Fla. – Feb. 02, 2011 – Villas of Grand Cypress’s Golf Club has been named one of the “100 Best Golf Shops in America” for 2011 by Golf World magazine. The honor, the third time in four years that the resort’s golf shop has been singled out in the publication’s annual rankings, was formally announced during the recent PGA Merchandise Show.
Judged by the Association of Golf Merchandisers and E. Michael Johnson, Golf World senior editor, the Top 100 list consists of 25 shops in each of four categories: private, resort, public and off-course. Grand Cypress Golf Club was honored in the public category.
“Each came up big in offering fresh merchandise, sound advice, inviting displays and service that kept us coming back,” Johnson wrote of the winners in this year’s competition.
For Joe Angelino, director of golf operations for Grand Cypress Golf Club, the Golf World honor never becomes routine, and is a reward for the effort he and his staff make for their customers.
“This offers further proof of our dedication to provide our guests a total experience at Grand Cypress,” said Angelino, who in 2009 was named PGA Merchandiser of the Year for the North Florida Section.
“Golf may be a game of tradition, but golf retailing today is anything but,” Johnson wrote. “Golf retail remains about people. Often the engine driving the stores and shops on this list is an individual (or group of individuals) with vision, creativity and discipline, coupled with a work ethic to envy.”
