Faldo Golf Institute Hosts Successful PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit

February 7, 2011

ORLANDO, Fla. – February 4, 2011…The acclaimed Faldo Golf Institute by Marriott, one of the nation’s leading golf schools, created by legendary Six-Time Major Champion Sir Nick Faldo, with locations at Marriott’s Grande Vista resort in Orlando, Fla., and Marriott’s Shadow Ridge resort, in Palm Desert, Calif., served as the host venue for the 12th annual PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit, when the Orlando location welcomed more than 500 PGA Professionals for the 2-day event held in advance of the 58th PGA Merchandise Show in January.

The PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit is The PGA of America’s largest educational forum for ideas and teaching methodology. Past presenters at the Summit have included many of today’s household names in the game, the industry, and the professional sports world. The Summit is a convergence of experts in fitness, mental training, technology and manufacturing for both U.S. and international teaching professionals from nearly 15 countries.

Faldo Golf Institute in Orlando offers a 35-acre golf haven, encompassing a nine-hole golf course; five instruction greens; five instruction tees; four practice tees; a state-of-the-art Club FittersWorkshop™, and a Swing Analysis Studio, among other amenities.

The theme of the 2-day event was “getting results,” and legendary college football coach and current ESPN analyst Lou Holtz served as one of the keynote speakers, while PGA Professional and Golf Channel personality Michael Breed served as Master of Ceremonies.

“As a PGA Professional, it was truly an honor to host my fellow PGA colleagues who all share the same passion and commitment to grow the game of golf,” said Andy Mitchell, PGA, Director of Golf Operations, Marriott’s Grande Vista. “Our line-up of presenters was a ‘who’s who’ in the golf industry, which made for a great kick-off to PGA Merchandise Show week.”

The schedule of presenters included World Golf Teacher Hall of Fame member Bob Toski; and a foursome of PGA Teacher of the Year recipients: Dr. Gary Wiren (1989), Martin Hall (2008), Mike Bender (2009) and Todd Anderson (2010). The Summit concluded with Toski reflecting on his six decades in teaching, and how many practices of the past have circled around once again into today’s golf instruction curriculum.

“Those who have attended a PGA Teaching & Coaching Summit have taken back something extra to their home facility that may become an invaluable element of their educational and business career,” said PGA Director of Instruction Joe Hallett. “The Summit is about interacting with instructors, networking opportunities with other attendees and gaining insight that can assist any PGA Professional in their job. We believe that this Summit was truly successful, meeting all that and more for attendees.”
