February 7, 2011; Phoenix, Arizona — PING pro Mark Wilson’s playoff win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open lifted him to No. 1 on the PGA Tour money list and earned PING its third tour win in five events this season.
Wilson’s birdie on the second playoff hole gave him his second win this year and fourth of his career. He leads the PGA Tour Money list with nearly $2.1 million and sits atop the FedEx points standings. For the week, he relied on accurate driving, precise iron play (#1 in Greens In Regulation) and clutch putting, including a 9-foot birdie effort that sealed the playoff victory.
“I guess my plans have changed again,” said Wilson, who earned an invite to The Masters with his win at the Sony Open. “Now I get to play in all the majors and the match play. I’m just riding the train as long as I can. This is the best golf I’ve played in my life.”
The win was the second straight on the PGA Tour for a PING pro. Last week, Bubba Watson prevailed at the Farmer’s Insurance Open for his second career win. Two weeks prior to that, Wilson survived a 36-hole final day to claim the title at the Sony Open in Hawaii.
“To win three of the first five events of the PGA Tour season is history-making for PING,” said PING Chairman & CEO John Solheim who was in the gallery watching Wilson in the playoff. “Mark’s play has been phenomenal this year. It was extra special for us to have him win in our backyard. I know a lot of our employees were out at the tournament rooting for him and the rest of the PING staff this week.”
Wilson played a PING® i15® driver, i15 hybrids (17 and 20 degrees), i10™ irons (4-PW), Tour Wedges (52 and 60 degrees) and a Karsten® Anser® putter.
