Unlimited golf experience pays tribute to Arnold Palmer and Arthur Hills
(HALF MOON BAY, Calif.) – Half Moon Bay Golf Links, the world-class, 36-hole public golf resort set against the dramatic cliffs of the Pacific Ocean, and The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, one of America’s premier oceanfront hotels, today announce the “Legends Golf Package.”
New for 2011, the Legends Golf Package combines luxury, elegance, and tradition to offer guests unlimited play on two award-winning, 18-hole courses wrought by Arnold Palmer and Arthur Hills. The Old Course is an American parkland style layout designed by Palmer, and the Ocean Course is a Hills linksland design nationally renowned for its closing holes perched above the Pacific.
“At the luxury brand level, the Legends Golf Package is a perfect fit for guests who enjoy two dramatically different, championship-caliber golf courses and elegant accommodations and amenities,” says Jay Heidenreich, Director of Sales and Marketing at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay.
“We understand the importance of celebrating the rich tradition and world-class design pedigree of our golf experience,” says Mark Kendall, President of Kenmark Golf Management, operator of Half Moon Bay Golf Links. “The Legends Golf Package offers discerning golfers a best-in-class golf and hotel experience at an incredible value.”
Guests can soak up the ambiance of The Old Course’s storied 18th hole, where a plaque commemorates Palmer’s historic seaside par-4. To determine the proper location for the 18th tee, Palmer hit drive after drive until he could no longer reach the barranca separating the green from the fairway. He envisioned the approach into the 18th green as a heroic shot that when well-executed, was deserving of a tip of the cap by the golfer and recognition by the gallery.
Also included at The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay is access to the co-ed Roman mineral bath and steam room, group exercise classes, gym access and a commemorative gift. Also onsite is one of the top 50 tennis complexes in the U.S. for guests in search of a multi-sport experience.
Rates begin at $475 for one player or $615 for two players per night, during the week. Reservations are taken directly through The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay by calling 650.712.2228 or by visiting http://www.ritzcarlton.com/en/Properties/HalfMoonBay/Default.htm. About Half Moon Bay Golf Links
Set against the dramatic cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, Half Moon Bay Golf Links is located just minutes from San Francisco and San Jose, and only 20 miles from San Francisco International Airport. The golf resort features 36 holes of championship golf; a clubhouse with a full-service pro shop offering the latest equipment and fashionable apparel; and the popular ocean-view restaurant, Mullins Bar & Grill, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner in a casual fireside dining setting.
For nearly 40 years, avid golfers have been returning to this incomparable setting, enjoying the variety of play offered by two award-winning courses: Arnold Palmer’s classic American parkland-styled The Old Course and the Scottish-links-styled Ocean Course designed by Arthur Hills.
The Old Course presents a series of strategically-demanding holes linked through the property’s tree-lined interior. The famous, par-4 18th emerges along the Pacific Ocean, boasting one of the most stunning tee-to-green views in the U.S. It plays up to The Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay’s oceanfront courtyard and fire pit.
The Ocean Course provides a true links golf experience: the salt air of the Pacific a constant as it is transported via the constant breeze from the Ocean just yards away. Fairways are separated by coastal mounding and native grasses, and open green fronts and creatively designed green surrounds support a variety of different playing options.
The Ocean Course hosted the 2008 LPGA Samsung World Championship, featuring the world’s best women golfers and won by Paula Creamer. Half Moon Bay Golf Links is also a regular site for U.S. Open Men’s and Women’s qualifiers, including 2010.
The golf courses are managed by Kenmark Golf Management. For more information about Kenmark, please visit www.kenmark.com. For more information about Half Moon Bay Golf Links, visit www.halfmoonbaygolf.com.
