First 25 golfers from Ballycastle receive complimentary golf at Machrihanish Dunes
Argyll, Scotland – February 11, 2011 – Machrihanish Dunes celebrates the announcement recently made by Kintyre Express that it will launch a new passenger ferry service from Campbeltown on the Kintyre Peninsula to Ballycastle in Northern Island for 2011.
Beginning in May, golfers will have the option to easily extend their Ayrshire and Machrihanish golf vacations to include other world-renowned links golf courses, including Royal Portrush, Royal County Down and Portstewart in Northern Ireland.
To celebrate the news and welcome our friends from Northern Ireland, Machrihanish Dunes is offering the first 25 golfers traveling from Ballycastle who reserve passage on the Kintyre Express and book a minimum of one night’s stay at the Ugadale Golf Cottages a complimentary round of golf on the heralded new links course at Machrihanish Dunes.
“This is certainly a win-win for everyone in Campbeltown and Machrihanish,” said Roland Henkel, General Manager at Machrihanish Dunes. “We applaud the efforts by Kintyre Express to once again open the link between Campbeltown and Ballycastle. Machrihanish Dunes will work to support this program by providing Kintyre Express customers first-class accommodations, food, service and unforgettable golf.”
Kintyre Express has been making speedy runs between Troon and Campbeltown for several years, connecting Machrihanish to Ayrshire and its celebrated courses at Troon, Turnberry and Prestwick. It will continue to provide service on that route. And now, with this new schedule of service to Ballycastle, golfers will be able to access even more of the U.K.’s top-ranked courses quickly, easily and enjoyably.
The commercial service will run four days a week from May 27th through September 26th, incorporating two return journeys each day on the 90-minute crossing. Additional journeys will be scheduled on demand. The service will utilize a custom-built Redbay Stormforce 36-foot RIB, an all-weather, fully cabined craft with a capacity of 12 passengers and a top speed of 37 knots.
About Machrihanish Dunes
Machrihanish Dunes is located on 259 acres of pristine links land on Scotland’s magnificent Argyll coastline, close to the village of Machrihanish. The creation of Scottish golf course architect David McLay Kidd, Machrihanish Dunes is the first course ever to have been built on a site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Working hand-in-hand with Scottish National Heritage, Kidd and the course’s developers carefully created Machrihanish Dunes in a way that would have the least possible impact on the beautiful natural environment. Machrihanish Dunes was built without machinery and in a way that hearkens back to the way courses were designed at the turn of the 20th Century, when Old Tom Morris was at work next door at Machrihanish Golf Club designing the famed links course there.
The Ugadale Cottages, the official accommodations of the Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club, are situated in the heart of Machrihanish and only moments away from Campbeltown on the Mull of Kintyre. Directly across from the first tee of the world-renowned Machrihanish Golf Club, the Ugadale Cottages offer world-class accommodations as well as world-class golf.
The Ugadale Cottages offer guests a taste of new luxury: something that was heretofore scarce in this part of Scotland. Each cottage has two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a kitchen and a comfortable living space with flat-screen television and working fireplace. The seven cottages are luxuriously appointed with all the amenities one would expect to find in the world’s finest hotels, but with a Scottish flavour and the kind of warm hospitality this part of the world is known for. Add to all this the quaint Old Clubhouse Pub, with its fine fare and welcoming atmosphere, and the Village’s breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean, and you have a destination that’s unrivalled in the world of links golf.
