Superior, optimized performance in each individual iron
CARLSBAD, CA (February 15, 2011) – Cobra Golf announces the introduction of the Cobra S3 irons, featuring all-new E9 Face Technology™ which creates a progressive Sweet Zone™ designed around impact patterns of typical golfers. The progressive Sweet Zone™ is achieved by combining a thin, hot face design with multi-material technology and a stepped crescent sole – which collectively optimizes all-around performance in each individual iron.
“The looks and performance of the new Cobra S3 irons make them ideal for golfers who seek superior feel and distance,” says Brian Zender, Senior Vice President and General Manager, COBRA-PUMA Golf. “The advancements we’ve made with E9 Face Technology™, along with the use of multiple materials, make this our best feeling and performing iron yet.”
E9 Face Technology™
With most iron sets in the market, the sweet spot on each iron is in the center of the face. But Cobra analyzed thousands of golf shots from hundreds of golfers and discovered that’s not always where golfers strike the ball. In long irons, golfers hit in a horizontal elliptical pattern. In mid-irons, golfers hit in an oval pattern. In short irons, golfers hit in a circular pattern.
“Our research found that golfers hit different irons in distinct patterns on the face,” says Tom Preece, Vice President of Research and Development for Cobra Golf. “Each S3 iron is optimized based on these results, so golfers know they’ll be getting the performance they need from each iron.”
Progressive Cavity Design
* The new cavity design changes the Sweet Zone™ from elliptical in the long irons to oval in the mid-irons and to circular in the short irons. Cobra engineers also optimized the face thickness of each individual iron, to provide the kind of distance, feel, forgiveness and accuracy that golfers are looking for from each of their irons.
Hyper Steel Face
* Cobra utilized ultra high strength steel in the long and mid-irons, which allowed engineers to thin out the face by 20% and increase face flex for higher ball speed. The weight savings allowed weight to be moved for more forgiveness.
COBRA S3® IRONS
While employing the all-new E9 Face Technology™, the Cobra S3 Iron also utilizes two materials in the clubhead. The long and mid-irons are made of 17-4 hyper steel, a high-strength steel alloy composition that allows for a thinner, hotter clubface for increased COR and ball speed; while the short irons are made of 17-4 stainless steel for more control.
E9 Face Technology™
* A new, advanced system creates a larger Sweet Zone™ for increased distance, accuracy and forgiveness.
Multi-material Construction
* A new hidden internal polymer topline and full cavity TPU (thermoplastic urethane) combine to optimize weight distribution and dampen vibration for superior feel and distance.
Stepped Crescent Sole Design
* A versatile mid-width sole narrows in the toe and heel to provide superior turf interaction to promote more consistent distance and accuracy.
The Cobra S3 Iron stock set composition is 4-SW for men and 5-SW for seniors and women. Shaft choices include Aldila NV-3 graphite in S (65g), R (65g) and Lite (60g) flex, as well as Nippon NS Pro 1030H (103g) steel shafts. Cobra/Lamkin grips are standard.
COBRA S3® IRON-HYBRID SET
For golfers who prefer using hybrids instead of long irons, Cobra offers Baffler®-style Hybrids to replace the 3- through 6-irons. These easy-to-hit clubs utilize Cobra’s popular low-profile Baffler technology, to help golfers get a higher trajectory, distance and directional consistency in their long shots. They’re also versatile, as they’re easy to hit from a variety of lies and will instill visual confidence in golfers who need help from long distances.
Baffler®-style Hybrids
* Available in the S3 lron-Hybrid set, to promote more forgiveness and a higher ball flight than standard long irons, and provide more consistency and versatility.
