$10,000 to be awarded to junior golfers this year in Sacramento area
THOUSAND PALMS, Calif. – PowerBilt, one of the most storied names in golf clubs, is teaming up with the legendary Haggin Oaks Golf Complex in Sacramento to create a scholarship program for young Northern Californian golfers. This year, five college scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded to students in the Sacramento area.
“This is a great example of two heritage brands coming together to invest in the future of the game,” says Ross Kvinge, president of PowerBilt’s U.S. operations. “Both PowerBilt and Haggin Oaks have been around for the better part of the past century helping golfers of all types, from beginners to champions. With this scholarship program, we want to play a role in helping young golfers not only improve their game, but succeed in life as well.”
“We see this as an opportunity to give back to the game of golf,” says Ken Morton, Sr., the primary owner of Haggin Oaks. “Golf teaches sportsmanship, personal responsibility and perseverance. It also builds self-confidence. Through our scholarship program with PowerBilt, we believe we’re helping create the leaders of tomorrow on and off the golf course.”
The scholarships will be administered through the Morton Golf Foundation (Haggin Oaks) and the HB Scholarship Foundation (PowerBilt) and will be awarded to five individual high school seniors. Eligible students are those who’ve gone through any Northern California Golf Association, The First Tee of Greater Sacramento (SAY Golf) or high school golf programs. Students who have worked at a golf facility are also eligible. Interested applicants should contact Angie Dixon at (916) 784-7272 or jrtour@tftgs.org.
