TORONTO – Hollas, an established apparel brand in the Canadian golf market, captured the attention of U.S. golf buyers at the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show with its new fall collection of outerwear for men featuring merino wool.
“Merino is quickly becoming a staple in the fast-moving sportswear market but really hasn’t been maximized in the golf segment,” said Don Nichols, founder of Hollas and partner of parent company, Second Skin Garment Company. “This wool is unique in that it keeps you cool when it is warm and keeps you warm when it’s cold – an attribute very fitting for golf. Buyers at the show were very intrigued by not only our use of this different fabric but also the styling and color palettes.”
Hollas will be introducing two styles for fall: Central Park V-Neck and Empire ¼ Zip Pullover. Color combinations will include Vapor/Lime, Black/Ebony, Ebony/Vapor and Lime/Ebony.
Features of the wool, which comes from Merino sheep that live in extreme temperatures, include:
•Odor resistance allowing for multiple wearings
•Soft to touch like cashmere but much more durable
•Maintains warmth even when wet
•Exceptionally breathable and lightweight
•Machine washable
The company has sold its merino wool collection into on-course pro shops and leading resorts for fall 2011. Since the company began efforts to expand into the U.S. market in 2010, Hollas products have been placed in high-profile facilities including Bighorn Golf Club, The Madison Club, Bandon Dunes, Circling Raven, Whisper Rock and more.
