HARBOR SPRINGS, MI – Kevin O’Brien, has been named as the general manager and chief operating officer at True North Golf club in Harbor Springs, Michigan.
O’Brien’s appointment coincides with the club’s newly established first phase of golf cottages opening this season at the highly acclaimed Jim Engh-designed course.
As general manager and chief operating officer, O’Brien will oversee True North’s entire operations, including the completion of the first hospitality element to be built at True North and the Club’s new short game and instructional area. The newly subdivided cottage area will be available for private ownership and rental lodging for golfers.

True North is a spectacular golf course with very dramatic elevation changes that provide spectacular vistas on the outskirts of Harbor Springs.
“Jim Engh, who was recognized as Architect of the Year in 2003 by Golf Digest magazine, created something very special on a stunning setting,” O’Brien said. “The new ownership group is committed to make this one of the finest facilities and golf experiences in the country.”
Fritz Duda, the principal owner in the five-partner group that recently purchased True North, said O’Brien’s wide experience makes him ideal for leading True North into a new era.

O’Brien was the general manager of The Resorts of Tullymore & St. Ives for the past five years. He served as director of golf for 11 years before moving up to the resort’s top job. During his tenure at Tullymore and St. Ives both courses received five-star ratings from Golf Digest magazine for quality, service and overall experience.
O’Brien’s appointment follows his latest professional achievement. His peers recently selected him as the 2010 Merchandiser of the Year for the Michigan PGA Section – an unprecedented fifth time for him to achieve such an honor.
True North which opened in 2005 includes a planned residential community over 360 acres of North Michigan woods. The new ownership group acquired the facility last year and is planning a number of improvements including the hospitality element currently under construction.
