Louisville golf course owner to be honored at association conference
PALM BEACH GARDENS, FL, March 8, 2011 – Lawren Just, owner of the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course near Louisville, Kentucky has been named the 2010 EWGA Businesswoman of the Year. She will receive the award at the 20th Anniversary Red Carpet Gala Awards Dinner during the 2011 EWGA Golfpalooza (previously known as the association’s annual conference) at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort in Amelia Island, Florida on April 13-16, 2011.
Since 2003, the EWGA (Executive Women’s Golf Association) annually recognizes a member who has used her success in business to promote the EWGA and the growth of women’s golf. The EWGA Businesswoman of the Year Award salutes exemplary business leadership, entrepreneurial spirit and expert business acumen, skills and talent to achieve success both on and off the golf course.
As owner/operator of the Persimmon Ridge Golf Course and three other companies, Lawren Just is an inspirational business leader in her community. She and her late husband Elmore built the Persimmon Ridge Course in 1988 which they later sold and repurchased in 2001, just weeks before his fatal heart attack. Just persevered this tragedy and nine years later the course is thriving with over $3 million in improvements and is the home of the Kentucky Golf Associations, on land donated by her company. Her other businesses include the real estate company handling sales of lots in Persimmon Ridge, PR Wastewater Management, treating wastewater for the development and the Louisville Golf Club Company, a golf equipment manufacturer.
“Participation in EWGA has benefited both me and my business,” says Just. “As a host club for leagues, Persimmon Ridge has added tee times as well as more golf shop and dining room business. On a personal level, I have made new golfing friends and now do business with a EWGA member I met on the golf course.”
When the Louisville EWGA chapter started, Just used her contacts in other organizations to get more women involved. She is the president-elect for the Louisville chapter of National Association of Women Business Owners, past chair of the board of the American Heart Association and recipient of numerous awards, most recently the Mercedes Benz Legends of Women’s Golf award for contributions to women’s golf. She has five children and a growing number of grandchildren.
Since its founding in 1991 as the Executive Women’s Golf Association, the EWGA has touched the lives of more than 100,000 women by connecting women to learn, play, and enjoy golf for business and for fun. This tax-exempt association delivers a wide range of golf, social and networking activities for both new and experienced golfers. There are chapters throughout the United States with international chapters in Canada, each run by volunteer leaders.
The EWGA is headquartered in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. For more information about the association and its membership, visit www.ewga.com
