Haverhill, Massachusetts – Southworth Golf, a subsidiary of Southworth Development of Newton, Massachusetts, announced today that Jeff Webster has been appointed as the Director of Agronomy overseeing all Southworth Golf properties.
Prior to accepting the Director of Agronomy position at Southworth Golf, Jeff was the Superintendent and Director of Agronomy at Southworth’s award-winning Club at Creighton Farms, in Aldie, Virginia just outside of Washington D.C. There, Jeff oversaw the construction and grow-in of the highly-acclaimed Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, which received the distinction of being named “Best New Private Course” in the world for 2008 by Travel + Leisure Golf and was rated in the Top 5 by both Golf Digest and Golf Magazine – one of only two private courses in the world to be recognized by all three publications in 2008. In addition, Jeff was also responsible for overseeing the overall landscaping of the entire Creighton Farms luxury residential golf community.
In his new role at Southworth Golf, Jeff will oversee golf and ground maintenance facilities at all Southworth properties including Renaissance Golf Club, Haverhill-MA; Machrihanish Dunes, Argyll-Scotland; Creighton Farms, Aldie-VA; Costa Caribe, Ponce-Puerto Rico; and PGA Village-The Bahamas.
“We are thrilled to have Jeff join the Southworth Golf team and are looking forward to his expertise and vast experience in managing all of Southworth’s agronomy programs,” said Greg Sherwood, President of Southworth Golf and Principal of Southworth Development. “Jeff has been instrumental in the development of a superior product at Creighton Farms and we fully expect that he will achieve this level of excellence at all of Southworth’s golf facilities.”
Jeff is a graduate of Frostburg State University with degrees in biology and chemistry, but at an early age found a passion for golf. His education and knowledge in science has enabled him to establish several green initiatives and environmental programs at Creighton Farms. In 2008, Creighton Farms achieved certification through the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for golf courses under Jeff’s direction.
His resume includes construction, renovation and grow-in of 5 golf projects in MD and Northern Virginia area. Jeff is an active member in the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America since and in 1998 served as president of the Greater Washington Golf Course Superintendents Association.
