TEMPE, AZ March 10, 2011 – At the beginning of the 2011 golf season in April, the women’s golf team of Dodge City Community College in Dodge City, KS will become the first collegiate golf team to be sponsored by Dixon Golf.
“The deal came together quickly,” said Dixon Golf CEO William Carey. “Once we were introduced, and learned about one another, they signed on.”
This is the eco-friendly golf manufacturer’s first venture into the world of collegiate athletics. Since they began production of the ball, everyone from A-list celebrities to former athletes, teaching pros and every day golfers have been using the Dixon brand; now a collegiate golf team can be added to the list.
How does a women’s golf coach in Dodge City, KS find out about an up and coming ball manufacturer in Arizona?
“I found out about Dixon Golf from Fred Greene’s Golf Smarter podcast. Fred talked about how the ball was on par with the Titleist Pro V1, and how the Dixon Earth ball was safe for the environment,” recalled Coach Bethea
In Coach Bethea’s ten years at DCCC, he has assembled two Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) All-Academic teams, three National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-Americans and four nationally ranked teams. In 2006, the Lady Conquistadors won the first ever KJCCC Women’s Conference Championship.
Coach Bethea chose the Dixon Earth ball for his players, rather than the Dixon Fire ball or another brand because of the swing speeds of his lady golfers.
“The Pro V1 requires a swing speed up to 100 m.p.h. in order to get maximum performance and control. The Dixon [Earth] will supply the performance, control and feel needed to please players with slower swing speeds, especially around the green,” said Bethea.
“We’re thankful for the strong relationships we’ve been able to build in such a short time. Coach Bethea learned about us from Fred Greene’s popular podcast, and now we have a great relationship with a collegiate golf program. The common link is the golf ball; people really united around a ball that performs, and has the added benefit of being eco-friendly,” adds Carey.
