Inverness Country Club in Birmingham, Ala., and Tonto Verde Golf Club in Rio Verde, Ariz., beat out a strong pool of candidates for Golf Inc.’s annual Clubhouse of the Year competition in the respective New Clubhouse and Remodel/Renovation categories.
Each category honored a first, second and third place finisher. Golf Inc. will showcase the 2010 winners in the upcoming Spring issue of Golf Inc. magazine.
“This year’s entrants were the epitome of distinctive architectural expression,” said Katina Cavagnaro, publisher of Golf Inc. Magazine. “The honorees stood above a very strong crowd with both modern and traditional styles.”
Inverness Country Club, designed by Chambers, was honored as the winner in the New Clubhouse category. Second place went to Escena Golf Club in Palm Spring, Calif., designed by Douglas Fredrickson Architects, Inc., and Emiko Design. The Clubs of Cordillera Ranch-Nicklaus Course in Boerne, Texas, finished third, designed by Marsh & Associates, Inc., and Thiel & Thiel, Inc.
Tonto Verde Golf Club, designed by SHJ Studio and Kimberly Timmons Interiors, was the winner in the Remodel/Renovation category. Second place went to Charlotte Country Club in Charlotte, N.C., designed by Jenkins Peer Architects and Chambers. Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Md., took third place, designed by Chapman Coyle Chapman & Associates and Ferry, Hayes & Allen Designers, Inc.
Winners were chosen on the basis of overall design concept, aesthetics and efficiency.
Judges for the contest were Marjorie Feltus-Hawkins, principal of Feltus-Hawkins Design; Frank Benzakour, general manager of Middle Bay Country Club; and Jim Richerson, general manager and group director of golf for Kohler Co.
