LOUISVILLE, Ky. – While PowerBilt has long been an international brand in the golf-club industry, its foundation has always been based in Kentucky, where it’s owned by the Hillerich & Bradsby Co, makers of the world-famous Louisville Slugger. Since 1916, H&B has been making golf clubs, which includes nearly a century of support for Kentucky’s youth golfers.
In keeping with its heritage, PowerBilt is playing a role this year in supporting the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation (KJGF) through a scholarship program implemented by the HB Foundation. In an effort to recognize youngsters who participate in the Musselman-Dunne Junior & College Golf Tour (which is run by KJGT), college scholarships will be awarded to junior golfers based on their playing ability, academics, citizenship (community activities) and extra-curricular school activities.
Another sponsor of the scholarship program is the Golf Headquarters store in Louisville on Shelbyville Road near the Snyder Freeway. “When you turn a kid on to golf, it often becomes a life-long love affair with the game,” says Tony McLaughlin, the long-time owner and manager of the Golf Headquarters store, which has been in business since 1999. “Golf already teaches players the value of being competitive, honest, courteous and respectful. By participating in this scholarship program, Golf Headquarters is proud to play a role in helping junior golfers continue their education.”
The HB Foundation will be awarding five scholarships in the amount of $2,000 each this year to graduating seniors who participate in the Musselman-Dunne Junior & College Golf Tour, which is funded by the Baker-Geary-Dunne Foundation. Interested applicants can download an application and get more information by going to the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation, www.kjgf.com website, or the HB Foundation site, www.thehbfoundation.org.
In 1991, the Baker-Geary-Dunne Foundation and the Kentucky Junior Golf Foundation formed a partnership for the purpose of providing grants to deserving high school seniors enabling them to a attend a Kentucky college. A total of 62 grants have been awarded since that time. “The grants provided through the HB Foundation will assist the Baker-Geary-Dune Foundations legacy to provide young men and women who would have a very difficult time attending college without one of these grants,” says PGA Professional Drew Conliffe.
PowerBilt has long been a favorite brand of golf equipment in Kentucky. Throughout the years, it’s provided clubs for golfers of all ages – from PGA Tour professionals to two-year-old tikes getting their first sets. Currently, PowerBilt is recognized throughout the industry as having one of the best complete lineups of clubs for junior golfers.
