Greenville, SC (March 15, 2011) – Forty-five PGM students from Clemson University joined 35 leading golf course executives in a live Webinar titled: Technology – An Investment or Expense, hosted by Golf Convergence on March 11, 2011.
Currently focusing on the utilization of technology to enhance a golf course’s marketing results, Rick Lucas, Program Director, felt that participation by his students was an unparalleled opportunity to meld the theory of the classroom with the perspective of some of the country’s leading golf course owners and managers. As Lucas stated, “Golf Convergence had just completed last week a national survey on the use of technology by golfers versus that implemented at golf courses. What a fabulous occasion to share with the students the insights revealed from a national study.”
Lucas’ goal has remained consistent-to provide contemporary knowledge that will place Clemson’s students significantly ahead of their peers in being able to manage the profitability of a golf course. One of only 20 PGA-accredited programs in the country, the Clemson PGM program curriculum is built around a strong recreation management basis, while also earning the students a minor or major in business management.
The Webinar series conducted by Golf Convergence is designed to supplement its ING Outstanding Achievement Award winning book, “The Business of Golf: What Are You Thinking? How To Maximize the Financial Return of A Golf Course,” by James J. Keegan.
With the rapid deployment of new functionality by leading software vendors featuring email marketing, online reservations through third parties, and social media integration, J. J. Keegan stated, “Our sense is that golf courses are becoming overwhelmed with the pace of new technology introductions. We believe this study, which will be released March 22, 2011, has great potential benefit to all golf course operators, and it was a thrill to share the survey results with the students at Clemson University.”
Keegan continued, “We are very pleased to be emerging as one of the leaders in education for the golf industry. This education component complements our strategic consulting practice, which is based on our philosophy of ‘listen, learn, help and lead.’ We empathize with the challenge large associations have in creating and updating meaningful curriculums. Our Webinars are complimentary and provide the registrants operational tools that can be implemented immediately at their facilities. With each class filled to capacity, we are thrilled to be guiding golf course owners as they seek to ensure that their vision becomes reality.”
