TOUR Instructor, Staff to Offer Putting Analysis at Event for Introductory Rate
(THE COLONY, Tex.) – The Old American Golf Club – designed by Tripp Davis and PGA TOUR/Ryder Cup star Justin Leonard – will introduce its instructional team, headed by Director of Instruction and groundbreaking putting technician Marius Filmalter, at the 2011 North Texas Golf Expo, March 18 – 20 at Dallas Market Hall.
During the event, the instructional team will offer lessons using SAM PuttLab technology (a scientific training system examining the most important parameters of the putting stroke) at an introductory rate. Filmalter – whose past and present students include Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Vijay Singh, Anthony Kim and Hunter Mahan – will speak on the Expo’s main stage the evening of March 18.
“The Old American Golf Club and Marius Golf Schools have partnered to create world-class game improvement programs geared toward today’s golfer,” says Filmalter. “We are all trying to do more in less time, and Marius Golf Schools emphasize the fastest road to measurable results, the short game and putting.”
“Marius and his top flight team of instructors have worked with tens of thousands of golfers, including many of the world’s very best players, who entrust them with their performance and livelihoods,” says Jeff Kindred, PGA General Manager. “The Marius Golf School at The Old American will expose Dallas-area golfers to this elite caliber instruction and the ‘science not theory’ methodology gleaned from in-depth research and analysis.”
The Old American will be holding one drawing each day of the Expo with the winner receiving a complimentary foursome.
Since opening in September, The Old American has garnered an impressive list of accolades including “Best New” by GOLF Magazine, LINKS Magazine, Golfweek and AVID Golfer.

About The Old American Golf Club
Inspired by the ‘Golden Age’ of golf course architecture between 1911 and 1937, The Old American’s natural contours, hazard styles, native grasses and green shapes were influenced by such masterpieces as Shinnecock Hills, National Golf Links, Prairie Dunes and Crystal Downs.
Davis, an accomplished amateur player and former All-American at the University of Oklahoma and Leonard, who played his college golf at the University of Texas, toured and played a handful of America’s classic Golden Age golf courses prior to starting the design process for The Old American.
The result is a golf course that emphasizes strategy and shot-making and flows with a natural rhythm from first tee to 18th green. The Old American features six sets of tees, ranging from the 5215-yard forward markers to the 7174-yard “Leonard” tournament tees. Davis and Leonard conceived the routing and layout with both medal and match play in mind, as golfers are required to hold “steady to par” through a number of holes, but enticed to gamble on birdie or better during select stretches of the course.
