Singapore (March 21): Super star golfer Gary Player will add yet another distinguished honour to his list of international achievements. The latest will be the South African’s induction to the Asia Pacific Hall Of Fame administered by the Asia Pacific Golf Group (APGG).
Player will be officially inducted to the Asia Pacific Hall of Fame during the staging of the 2011 Asia Pacific Golf Summit which will be held at the beach resort city of Pattaya in Thailand from 31 October to 2 November.
“It is an honour to be named to the Asia Pacific Hall of Fame. I have always enjoyed playing and designing courses throughout Asia and to be recognized by the Asian community as a hall of fame golfer is just fantastic. I am looking forward to the ceremony and being able to offer my thanks in person.” said Gary Player.
In announcing the induction, Mike Sebastian, APGG’s chief executive officer said, “The institution of the Asia Pacific Hall of Fame is proud to welcome Gary Player to this exclusive and elite gathering of some the most celebrated golfers in the world and we felt that 2011 was both timely and appropriate for us to honour the great man.”
2011 marks the 50th anniversary of Player’s first Masters victory in 1961 – a truly important mile-stone in his career.
The Asia Pacific Hall of Fame was launched in 2010 at the Asia Pacific Golf Summit. The first batch of recipients for this award included Jack Nicklaus and Boonchu Ruangkit from Thailand and Lu Liang-Huan from Taiwan.
To mark the induction, a special acceptance interview with Player will be featured on the programme of the Asia Pacific Golf Summit where the legendary golfer will discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the golf industry today.
The 2011 Asia Pacific Golf Summit will kick-off a week-long series of business conferences and trade shows on golf and related life-style trends including the first ever All Asia Inter-City Club Challenge Tournament which will see teams from various golf clubs in the region competing for the All Asia Challenge Trophy presented by the City of Pattaya.
The official venue for the events will be the plush five-star resort of the Royal Cliff Hotels Group and the world-class Pattaya Exhibition and Convention Centre.
