Junior golf program is truly a family business impacting the South Bay area schools
Torrance, CA – TGA Premier Junior Golf, one of the leading initiatives to grow the game of golf and the only national after-school enrichment junior golf program in the country, continues to expand in its home state of California with a new territory, located in Torrance. Michelle Rockholt and Mike Ward are the owners and operators of this latest franchise.
Rockholt and Ward have resided in the South Bay area for more than 20 years. Rockholt started her career with TGA in 2007 as an instructor, and quickly moved into the corporate office as the director of the Los Angeles territory. Soon afterward, she and Mike Ward, who works as a district manager for Honeywell Security, realized they wanted to contribute more to the TGA family and decided to acquire their own territory.
Shortly after acquiring TGA Beach Cities, Michelle and Mike decided to make their TGA operation a family business and brought in their three children to work as coaches and instructors. All three children contribute greatly to the success of the business.
Kiara Williams is a first-year student at the University of California, San Diego and works as a TGA summer camp coach. Jene’ Estrada, a TGA intern, is a freshman at California Academy of Math and Science. Michael Ward Jr., a first-year student at El Camino College, works as a TGA coach.
“Through our own three children we have experienced first hand how beneficial the TGA program is. It has taught them valuable lessons that contributed to their academic and social progress,” said Rockholt. “TGA has provided the tools to help them grow confident and give back to the enrichment program that has taught them so much. Now, years later, we are watching them begin to achieve their own personal goals.”
Joshua Jacobs, founder and CEO of TGA Premier Junior Golf is delighted that Michelle and Mike have made it a family business.
“Michelle has been an amazing addition to TGA since 2007 and the TGA Family is proud to call Michelle and Mike franchise owners. Michelle’s work in the community the past four years, bringing affordable and accessible golf programs directly to schools and golf courses, showed us that she was ready to take the next step and become a franchise owner. Her passion and her family’s passion to impact youth of the Torrance and South Bay area of the Greater Los Angeles area will certainly lead to great things for her and her TGA business.”
With more than 35 enrichment programs, camps, and clinics, Michelle and Mike are making a significant impact on the cities of El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach, Torrance, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Lomita, Harbor City, Wilmington, Long Beach, Carson and San Pedro.
The TGA Beach Cities program is one of the largest junior golf programs in the Los Angeles area impacting over 1,200 students annually. The program also features 15 coaches and directors including PGA and LPGA Professionals.
In addition, the TGA Beach Cities program also offers a unique internship program to provide high school and college students the opportunity to earn community service hours for their graduation. The intern program will not only provide high school golfers with service hours during their summer’s off, but it will enhance the TGA junior golf camps and allow our TGA junior golfers (5-14 years) the opportunity to observe older more experienced players, and learn from them. Interns can receive up to 200 hours per summer.
TGA is the only national after school program that teaches the fundamentals of the game of golf, its rules, etiquette, and life values, while promoting education for kindergarten students through the eighth grade. Since its inception in six Los Angeles schools in the fall of 2003, the premier junior golf program is now offered nationwide in 2,200 schools reaching 108,000 students in 21 states.
The TGA enrichment curriculum, developed by PhDs in child and curriculum development, along with PGA and LPGA golf professionals, is a five-level program designed for kids to advance from one level to the next while building self-esteem as well as confidence in terms of education, life skills and character development. The steps also include teaching fundamental math, science, English, and history associated with the program.
“Mike and I, and our three children have a strong passion for TGA and we believe the program far exceeds golf instruction. The character development and educational concepts are what make TGA so unique and we believe this enrichment program empowers each student to reach their individual goals,” said Rockholt. “We are dedicated to expanding TGA in the South Bay and Long Beach area and making TGA Premier Junior Golf available to all the families in our community.”
