In honor of April Fool’s Day, the writers at golf’s leading website-joined by this month’s celebrity guest, heavy-metal guitarist Joey Allen-let their thinning hair down to come up with the game’s most outrageous news items.
Portland, Ore. (March 29, 2011) Once a year, in time for The Masters, the network of golf-writing fools at The A Position invents its own list of fictitious golf stories they’d like to see published. Perhaps you’ve already noticed that golf can be a little, um, full of itself. Which is why our writers take aim at such conventions as collared shirts, private clubs, and gear that promises improved performance even with a lousy swing.
This month’s first story is from Joey Allen, lead guitarist of the 1980s-90s heavy-metal band Warrant-and a diehard golfer. He’d like to see a piece entitled “Neck Tattoos Replacing Collared Shirts at Upscale Golf Properties,” because, as he explains, “I love the idea of a story that pokes a finger in the eye of convention.”
Other entries boast the same mix of fiction and foment, covering everything from changes to the Rules to mysterious ways that golfers suddenly begin playing much better to Tour pros actually starting to play faster.
And, of course, Charlie Sheen makes an appearance. Something about Tiger’s blood…
