SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (April 11, 2011) – Gateway Pro Tour tournament officials announced today that they will conduct a “Points Race” to decide the winner of the exemption for the Preferred Health Systems Wichita Open (June 16-19).
The “Points Race” will consist of three tournaments during Arizona Series Package #5 (tournaments 13-15), with the leading cumulative point winner for those three events earning the exemption. The three tournaments during Package #5 will be played at Tonto Verde Peaks (May 4-6), Tonto Verde Ranch (May 11-13) and McCormick Ranch Pine Course (May 18-20). ONLY Gateway Pro Tour members are eligible to compete for the exemption.
All GPT members have the option to participate by paying a $100 entry fee, which is due by Friday, April 29. Members can register for the “Point Race” by contacting the Tour office at (480) 247-7559. Memberships are available throughout the season, so non-members still have time to sign up.
“The “Point Race” format was used earlier in the season when we awarded our first exemption for the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX which received a great response from the players, so we decided to keep the format the same for the second exemption,” said Ryan Pray, Executive Director of Gateway Pro Tour. “The format is challenging and fair to all those competing.”
This is the second Nationwide Tour exemption GPT has granted this season. “These exemptions are extremely important to our players and we are working diligently on securing as many exemptions as possible,” Pray said.
