CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (April 11, 2011) – KEISER UNIVERSITY COLLEGE OF GOLF incorporates “The Business of Golf: What Are You Thinking?” textbook into its capstone course for graduating seniors. The textbook will be combined with Webinars conducted by the author, J. J. Keegan, Managing Principal of Golf Convergence.
“This is a very exciting opportunity. Each of the students have successfully completed internships at some of the nation’s leading courses. Blending their field experience with contemporary academic learning creates an unparalleled classroom environment. This learning opportunity contributes to ensuring that these students emerge from college as valuable contributors to the management of a golf course at the outset of their careers, “stated Keegan, a former certified public accountant, who holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Texas Christian University and a Masters in business from the University of Michigan.
Keiser University’s Associate of Science degree in Golf Management prepares students for a variety of positions in the golf industry. In the program, students are prepared to provide golf instruction, manage golf course operations, ensure appropriate maintenance of golf facilities and equipment, as well as integrate golf into the broader hospitality and recreation domain. Through a competency-based education format and state-of-the-art golf training equipment, students are given opportunities for success in their academic, professional, and personal lives. Upon graduating with an Associate’s degree from the College of Golf at Keiser University, students earn six credits toward those required for PGA membership.
This capstone class, “GM207 – The Business of Golf,” is being taught by Donna White, PGA Professional, Class A LPGA Tour Division/Class A LPGA Teaching and Club Professional member, Winner of three LPGA tour events, and ranked in the top 20 LPGA money winners five times in her career. White’s tenacity and commitment to excellence drive her passion to promote the game to golfers of all ages and abilities.
“As an individual who strives daily to improve operations and provide the golfer a pleasurable golfing experience by providing quality service, merchandise, programs and activities, this class, as the capstone course, provides a marvelous opportunity to create a balance in the graduating senior’s mind between the game and the business of golf,” White commented. “We are confident of one thing,” she continued. “For those of you who diligently read the book and studiously complete the classwork, the vast knowledge gained will place the students significantly ahead of their peers in being able to manage the profitability of a golf course.”
Likewise, Keegan said, “I am thrilled to be affiliated with the Keiser University College of Golf Program and especially with the enthusiasm and entrepreneurial spirit that Donna White has shown.”
The book, available in print and on-demand electronic versions, in addition to the case study, includes class exercises and a test bank of questions. Since being published in June, 2010, The Business of Golf has been acquired by leading golf executives in 13 countries.
