Summer golf camps awarded to deserving junior golfers
Ponte Vedra Beach, FL (April 19, 2011): The TOUR Academy recently announced its annual junior golf development donation for summer 2011. The total donation, which is in excess of over $10,000, will allow the TOUR Academy to assist a record number of junior golfers this summer.
The awards have been granted to several non-profits across the nation for local distribution within various cities and include both scholarships and cash donations. The recipients include the Northern California Golf Association, the Southern California Golf Association, The First Tee of San Francisco, the Junior Golf Association of Arizona, the Kentucky Junior Golf Association, and former NFL star Kurt Warner’s First Things First Organization. Scholarship awardees are eligible to attend one of the nearly 200 TOUR Academy junior golf camp programs being offered on nationwide this summer.
“We are thrilled to be able to award as many camp programs as we have this year. In that junior golf is truly a bright spot in the golf industry, we are pleased to be able to support and cultivate so many juniors in terms of their golf goals and aspirations,” said John Fechter, President of the TOUR Academy.
TOUR Academy summer camp programs begin in June and run through August. Camp options include overnight, full-day, half-day, and elite player programs, are open to juniors 7-18 years of age, and all ability levels are welcome.
Camps will be held in highly desirable golf destinations including Florida, Arizona, New Jersey, California, Colorado and Texas. Additionally, the camps will be held at some of the most recognized and celebrated golf courses in the country including; TPC Sawgrass, located in Ponte Vedra Beach, FL and home of THE PLAYERS Championship; TPC Scottsdale outside Phoenix, AZ and home of the Waste Management Phoenix Open; and TPC Harding Park, located in San Francisco, CA home of the 2010 and 2011 Schwab Cup Championship and 2010 Presidents Cup.
Camp curriculum includes the full swing mechanics, short game, and strategies pertaining to the mental aspects of the game. Additionally, camp curriculum will
include review of golf jargon, golf etiquette, and overall sportsmanship.
“In addition to the on-course game instruction, we also focus our curriculum around how to play the game with integrity, how to maintain a certain level of sportsmanship, and etiquette, as well as other life skills that can be applied to situations which arise both on and off the course,” Fechter said. “So in addition to developing great junior golfers, we also look to develop junior golfers who serve as exceptional junior ambassadors to the game.”
The number of TOUR Academy elite player programs has also been increased. These programs, which will be held at select locations, are exclusively designed
to develop and train junior golfers who have a handicap of 10 or below and who are interested in pursuing a collegiate golf career.
Each camp will be taught by a seasoned member of the TOUR Academy staff, all of whom have undergone a rigorous training program and who are well-prepared to meet the developmental needs of the junior golfer. The TOUR Academy staff is comprised of instructors who are highly respected in the golf industry and have been recognized for their work in the golf industry. Many serve as contributing writers for PGATOUR.COM and Golf Illustrated, have made appearances on the Golf Channel, have served as coaches for top college golf teams, serve as coaches of the Chinese Olympic team, and have worked on an international basis with juniors in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and Singapore.
“In that we have one of the finest instructor teams in the game, parents can be assured that his or her junior golfer will receive best-in-class training,” Fechter said. “This combined with our outstanding locations and robust program offering, we really view the TOUR Academy as becoming a true leader in the junior golf instruction space.”
