Call to action promotes breast cancer research and prevention
CARLSBAD, Calif., April 14, 2011 – Odyssey Golf, a brand division of Callaway Golf Company (NYSE: ELY), today announced a campaign surrounding its Divine Line® of women’s putters in support of the Morgan Pressel Foundation, which helps fund breast cancer research and prevention.
Throughout the month of April and leading up to Mother’s Day on May 8th, in-store merchandising at more than 1,000 U.S. golf retailers, as well as content on Odyssey’s website and Facebook page, will encourage golfers to make their own donation at www.morganandfriends.us. Odyssey will also be contributing to the cause by making a $50,000 donation to the Morgan Pressel Foundation on Mother’s Day. The 22-year-old Pressel is a two-time winner on the LPGA Tour and has been an Odyssey and Callaway Staff Professional since turning pro in 2006.
“I’m very grateful to Odyssey for donating to a cause that is very important to me,” Pressel said. “Mother’s Day is a special time for women of all ages, but it’s also an opportune time to remind them how important it is to have regular check-ups on their health. Odyssey putters have been crucial to my success since I turned professional and I’m excited that the Odyssey team is contributing to an effort that is more important than any victory I could ever have on the course.”
Pressel, who lost her mother Kathryn to breast cancer in 2003, started the Morgan & Friends Fight Cancer charity tournament in 2008. The four-year-old event benefits the Lynn Cancer Institute in Boca Raton, Florida. This year’s tournament, held on January 4-5 at St. Andrews Club in Boca Raton, raised $502,000 to fight cancer and support cancer treatment and research centers. In four years, the event has raised more than $1.7 million, which resulted in the Kathryn Krickstein Pressel Mammovan, a mobile early detection vehicle which makes getting a mammogram easier. In less than one year, the vehicle has tested more than 1,000 people, 875 of which would not have otherwise been seen and more than 40 of whom needed follow-up care.
“We’re excited to support a very worthy cause led by one of our staff pros,” said Chris Koske, Senior Brand Manager for Odyssey Golf. “Morgan Pressel’s philanthropic efforts have inspired us to contribute to this cause, which is close to her heart and has affected millions of women around the world. We’re hopeful that this awareness campaign around our Divine Line of women’s putters will help create attention for this worthy initiative and inspire more people to contribute towards finding a cure.”
Odyssey’s Divine Line of women’s putters launched in the fall of 2010.The putters were developed specifically for a woman’s game, and feature pink grips that stand out at retail. After countless hours of research and product testing on the green with women golfers, Odyssey designers developed the Divine insert to provide a preferred feel and roll. The company that perfected putter inserts like White Hot®, White Hot XG® and White Ice® in recent years created the Divine insert to be slightly softer feeling than White Ice and a bit firmer than White Hot XG. The insert was also designed to deliver a slightly louder sound. Feedback from women golfers regarding color and styling led to the Divine Line’s white chrome finish for an elegant look that is sure to appeal to a wide spectrum of players.
The Divine Line’s heavier putterheads provide optimum balance with enhanced feel and control. The 2-Ball model even boasts adjustable weighting, with three interchangeable options to dial in the perfect feel. Odyssey is the #1 Putter across the world’s major professional tours in wins, usage and top-10 finishes. The new Divine Line of Odyssey Putters feature a new product introductory retail price of $129 for core models (Blade and Rossie®) and $179 for progressive models (Mini T and 2-Ball).
