(CARMEL, CA, April 21, 2011) The Shivas Irons Society, a non-profit organization dedicated to providing members with opportunities for community, discovery and transformation through golf, today announced that Dr. Joe Parent has been named to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Parent is the founder of Zen Golf International and the bestselling author of Zen Golf: Mastering the Mental Game, Zen Putting, and Golf: The Art of the Mental Game. He holds a Ph.D. in psychology from University of Colorado and has coached the mental game in business, life and golf for over 25 years. As a distinguished PGA Tour Instructor, he has attracted such clients as major champions Vijay Singh, David Toms, Juli Inkster and Cristie Kerr. He also coaches many top level amateurs and juniors, and is currently the mental game coach for the men’s and women’s golf teams at Pepperdine University.

“The core values of the Shivas Irons Society and my work as a coach are highly congruent. I value the emphasis on the spiritual aspect of golf and life and I am pleased for the opportunity to give back to the game and the community,” said Dr. Parent.

Steve Cohen, President of the Society, added, “We’re delighted to welcome ‘Dr. Joe’ to the Board. As a longtime member of the Society, he brings a passion for our mission, as well as extensive experience in coaching for success to the task of helping lead the Society into its next phase of growth.”

Founded in 1992, the Shivas Irons Society is 501(c)3 non-profit organization based in Carmel, California. The Society is a network of more than a thousand golfers from all walks of life in over a dozen countries. The organization hosts local, regional and national golf outings on outstanding courses, offers annual tours to Ireland and Scotland, supports youth golf in the United States and overseas and is actively building a resource for golf’s art and literature. The Society is open to all who share its members’ love of the game and a respect for golf’s deeper dimensions.
