ORLANDO, Fla. (April 26, 2011) – Golfweek, the most authentic, authoritative and independent voice in golf, will release its 12th annual Amateur Issue on Friday. Marking the beginning of the busy spring/summer golf season, the 2011 Amateur Issue delves deep into the exciting world of amateur golf to celebrate those who compete not for the money, but for the sheer love of the game.
“We cover golf on all levels, but it’s the amateur game that always has been our backbone,” said Golfweek editor Jeff Babineau. “We have as much enthusiasm and vigor covering an amateur championship, or a Walker Cup, as we do in covering the Masters or a U.S. Open. It’s at the amateur level that we have the opportunity to find and write about the stars of tomorrow.”
Highlights of Golfweek’s 2011 Amateur Issue include:
• An in-depth look at whether or not it is time for the U.S. to create an elite-player development program to help compete with other global programs that have closed the talent gap
• An exclusive preview of this year’s Walker Cup, including a profile of U.S. captain Jim Holtgrieve, and a rundown of which players are on the radar for the U.S. and Great Britain & Ireland squads
• Profiles of seven local legends who have impressive records on the state or local level, including Dave Ragaini, whose name you might not know, but whose voice you might recognize
“Amateur golfers are the fabric of the golf community, and we are thrilled to salute these players once again with a special dedicated issue,” said Jason Redditt, publisher of Golfweek. “Covering every level of the game is the core of what we do here at Golfweek, and this issue is yet another example of just how committed we are to this mission.”
