Men’s & women’s golf apparel sales show significant increases in January and February 2011, as compared to 2010
ORLANDO, Fla., April 25, 2011 … Golf Datatech, LLC (www.golfdatatech.com), the industry’s leading independent research firm for consumer, trade and retail golf trends and performance, today unveiled Golf Apparel Market Reports highlighting January and February apparel sales trends. These reports, which capture year-over-year retail sales data from both on-course and off-course retailers in the U.S., cover the top selling men’s and women’s apparel brands broken down by price range, clothing type and inventory, and revealed a significant increase in sales of apparel and outwear in January and February 2011, as compared with 2010.
The latest reports show an increase of 16% in retail sales of apparel and outerwear at On-Course locations and an increase of 7.5% at Off-Course locations. The total combined increase of retail sales dollars for apparel and outerwear at On and Off-Course locations was 13.5%, though prices were up in nearly every category. Other notable findings in the January and February 2011 On/Off Course Market Report were the following:
• For men’s shirts, including short and long sleeve, at On-Course and Off-Course locations, sales are up 14.4% in retail dollars as compared to January and February 2010.
• For women’s shirts, including short and long sleeve, at On-Course and Off-Course locations, sales are up 18.6% in retail dollars as compared to January and February 2010.
• For outerwear at On-Course and Off-Course locations, sales are up 5% in retail dollars, as compared to January and February 2010.
“Overall, our reports show that both the On-Course Green Grass Shops and the Off-Course Golf Specialty Shops sold more apparel at higher prices in the first two months of 2011 than they did in 2010,” said Tom Stine, Co-Founder, Golf Datatech. “This is great news for the industry, great news for golf retailers – and combined with recent reports that rounds were up in January and February – it is an indication that the industry is starting to come back from the recession.”
