The First Tee of Metropolitan New York designated as event beneficiary with Golf Digest & the Metropolitan Golf Association as promotional partners.
New York, NY (April 25, 2011) – Managing Partners Bill Carroll, John Carroll and Jon Clay announce the creation of The Family Golf Challenge, a new golf skills competition for families which will take place at public golf courses in the New York Tri-State Area this spring and summer.
The Family Golf Challenge is an amateur skills competition designed to grow the game of golf by involving the entire family – 2 person teams of adults and kids (7-17) – in a series of skills contests featuring long drive and putting challenges. “Thirty-three percent of all entry-fee revenue will be donated to The First Tee of Metropolitan New York” says Bill Carroll, President and CEO of Family Golf Challenge, LLC. “We have recently partnered with Golf Digest and the Metropolitan Golf Association to drive event participation and we’ll be announcing additional partners soon”.
“Our Chapter of The First Tee is pleased to have assisted in the development of The Family Golf Challenge concept,” says Barry McLaughlin, Executive Director of The First Tee of Metropolitan New York. “We are grateful to be the Event Beneficiary and believe that this family activity will inspire new players to join our great game.”
Ten local events are planned for the Northeast in the spring and summer of 2011 including a five-day competition to be staged at Bethpage State Park, July 11-15th. Teams can register for participation online @ www.familygolfchallenge.com: local winners in 12 categories will advance to a regional playoff in September. Beginning in 2012, the competition will roll out to state and sectional competitions and culminate in a national championship in 2013.
All players will be entered into an exciting golf sweepstakes featuring a family trip to Ireland provided by John McLaughlin, GM of North & West Coast Links Golf: www.northandwestcoastlinks.com.
