BRADENTON, Fla. – The Concession Golf Club, a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course designed in association with Tony Jacklin, has signed on to host the 2012 Callaway Collegiate Match Play Championship March 18-20. The University of South Florida (USF) will serve as the host school for this Golf Coaches Association of America event.
The Concession, named “Best New Private Course of 2006” by Golf Digest magazine, holds one of the highest Course and Slope Ratings by the United States Golf Association. The 7,500 yd., par 72 layout, is set on 520 acres of ruggedly pristine land dotted with massive oaks and majestic pines. It runs three miles from tip to tip.
“We are extremely proud to partner with USF to bring an event of this stature to the Sarasota area,” said Bruce Cassidy Jr., general manager of The Concession Golf Club. “The Concession offers many risk/reward opportunities. It will be exciting to see the best Division I collegiate golfers tackle the course in match play.”
The Match Play Championship is recognized as one of the top collegiate fields annually. It has been the proving ground for many aspiring tour players including PGA and European Tour champions J.B. Holmes, Dustin Johnson, Camilo Villegas, Webb Simpson and Bill Haas.
The first national collegiate Match Play Championship was held by the GCAA 2002 with the approval of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. Past team champions include Augusta State, Oklahoma State, Georgia, Florida, UCLA, Middle Tennessee State, and New Mexico.
The Concession joins the list of some truly great venues to host the Match Play Championship to include Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas; Reynolds Plantation the Oconee Course, Greensboro, Ga.; Mission Inn Golf Resort, Howey in the Hills, Fla.; The Farms Golf Club in Rancho Sante Fe, Calif.; the Ritz Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain, Tucson, Ariz. and the current host Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Ball Ground, Ga.

About The Concession
The Concession Golf Club is located at 7700 Lindrick Lane, Bradenton, Fla. 34202. The Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course designed in association with Tony Jacklin, was conceived in commemoration of the 1969 Ryder Cup singles match between the two where Nicklaus conceded a putt to Jacklin. That gesture, known as “the concession,” rendered the two teams in a 17-17 tie. The United States retained the Ryder Cup having won it in 1967. That moment marked the beginning of a lasting friendship between the two men and inspired one of America’s great golf clubs.
