NORWALK, Conn. – Marc Simon, PGA Golf Exhibitions Group Sales Director, has been named one of the 2011 honorees of the SGB 40 Under 40 Awards.
The fourth annual ranking by the SportsOneSource Group recognizes individuals from all corners of the sporting goods industry who are leaders making a difference in their businesses and the market. The forty recipients were selected by a panel of SportsOneSource analysts, editors and industry executives from more than 450 nominations received from around the sporting goods industry.
“These awards are a way to recognize the great work done by younger leaders in our industry,” said James Hartford, president and CEO of The SportsOneSource Group. “The extraordinary and diverse talent nominated this year made it difficult to narrow the list to just 40 people. We drew very strong support from prior honorees and other industry leaders to select a prestigious group of individuals and it is our pleasure to honor the next generation of leaders.”
Simon has been involved in the golf industry nearly his entire life. As a player, Simon progressed from top regional amateur to standout player on the Hamilton College golf team, earning Academic All-America Honors and ultimately election to the Town of Kirkland Sports Hall of Fame in 2008.
His golf industry career started out in the pro shop at Skenandoa Golf Course, progressing to a successful career with Reed Exhibitions on the PGA Golf Shows – beginning in sales and eventually becoming Sales Manager, National Accounts Manager and then Sales Director. At the 2011 PGA Merchandise Show, for the first time in 10 years, all major equipment manufacturers participated. Show exhibitor participation increased by nine percent, and exhibitor satisfaction by 62 percent. Simon has twice been Awarded Reed’s Sales Manager of the Year, as well as Reed’s “People’s Choice” Awards in 2005 and 2010.
The SGB 40 Under 40 Awards event will be held in Chicago on June 24-26.
