ORLANDO, Fla. (May 4, 2011) – Golfweek – the most authentic, authoritative and independent voice in golf – has just released its highly anticipated Best Courses You Can Play special issue, which features a comprehensive state-by-state listing of the nation’s greatest public-access layouts, all in an easy-to-read, digest-sized edition.
“Of all the lists we do, the Best Courses You Can Play roster is the most fun for us to compile,” said Bradley S. Klein, national director of Golfweek’s Best Courses rating program. “Our raters know this is the kind of user-friendly guide that most golfers take to heart because these are the courses they can easily access and enjoy – courses that are well-designed, well-maintained and solid strategic tests of their games.”
In addition to listing each state’s premier public-access courses, Golfweek’s Best Courses You Can Play offers editorial articles that showcase the architectural prowess of the country’s top public layouts and highlight some of the noteworthy events to which they have played host. This special edition also includes featured advertorials with full course statistics and descriptions for many of the golf clubs found on the list.
To produce Golfweek’s Best Courses You Can Play list, an expert team of 675 evaluators rated each public layout on the basis of 10 criteria, including routing, conditioning, variety and memorability of holes. The result is an average of scores, which then dictates a course’s overall ranking. The number of courses per state varies on this list based on the course supply, population and level of play in each state.
“Golfweek’s Best Courses You Can Play is the perfect travel companion for serious golfers,” said Jason Redditt, publisher of Golfweek. “It fits easily into your golf bag and provides a complete rundown of the best places to play across the country; there’s simply no other book out there that can compare.”
