Schedule will feature six 54-hole tournaments, plus a special season-opening sponsorship event
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (May 16, 2011) – Gateway Pro Tour announced a partnership with Golden State Golf Tour today that will align the two developmental golf tours for a six-tournament schedule in California this summer.
The California Series will be played throughout the greater San Diego area, and will be run as Gateway Pro Tour events using Gateway Pro Tour rules and regulations.
“Our ultimate goal is to provide players with first class competitive golf tournaments on the West Coast, and Gateway Pro Tour and Golden State Tour have joined forces to create that environment,” said Ryan Pray, Executive Director of Gateway Pro Tour. “Both tours have the experience, knowledge and background to serve players in the best way possible, which makes this partnership a perfect match from our perspective.”
The California Series will get things started with a special 18-hole “Sponsorship Event” on May 23, 2011, at Morgan Run Club and Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, Calif. The winner of this event will receive FREE entry into all six of the GPT’s 2011 California Series events this summer (a value of $8,250). Additionally, the top 30 percent of the field will be paid.
The entry fee for the GPT California Series Sponsorship Event is $350, and is open to members and non-members. Registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis, and entries will be accepted through Wednesday, May 18. Players can register online at www.gatewayprotour.com.
“The Golden State Tour and Gateway Pro Tour have a tremendous amount of respect for each other, and it makes sense to combine our efforts for our players,” said Mike O’Leary, Executive Director of The Golden State Tour. “Players come first, they deserve our best effort, and I am pleased with the end result,” added O’Leary.
The California Series will feature six 54-hole tournaments with first-place guarantees of $15,000 and TWO Q-School Challenges, an aggregate “Points Race” held during tournaments 1-3 AND tournaments 4-6 that will award the top cumulative finisher in each respective “Points Race” FREE paid entry to 2011 Q-School ($4,500 value).
“We are really looking forward to working with Golden State Golf Tour and seeing what kind of positive effect this can have for developmental golf on the West Coast,” said Pray. “I encourage players from all over to come participate in the California Series this summer and take advantage of what we are offering.”
