LAKE MARY, FL – Timacuan Golf & Country Club in north Orlando will host a U.S. Open qualifying tournament this Thursday, May 19, with tee times starting at 8 a.m.
A total of 69 players will be playing for only five spots into the sectional qualifier. The U.S. Open will be conducted June 16-19 at Congressional Country Club.
“Our golf course is in great tournament condition for our qualifiers,” said Director of Golf David Moore. “Our Superintendant Barry Shuman and his staff have worked very hard to get our course in top condition during this dry weather time.”
Timacuan, which is home to the Mike Bender Golf Academy, is located near Interstate 4, just minutes from downtown Orlando. It features a private-club experience at a semi-private facility. Timacuan serves up two diverse nine holes designs, and is a well-conditioned course throughout the year.
The Ron Garl-designed layout is one of the most popular courses in Central Florida for locals, tourists and group outings. It has garnered many statewide awards, being ranked as high as No. 14 in Florida by The Florida Golf Reporter Magazine. The challenging par-4 second hole has been named the toughest hole in the region by Orlando Magazine.
A fitness room was recently added to the clubhouse, and offers various programs open to the public. There are also specials on golf and social memberships. And the Timacuan clubhouse is a popular facility for weddings and banquets.
