REDFORD, Michigan – Registration is now open for the inaugural Stars & Stripes Open to support The Folds of Honor Foundation.
Proceeds from the July 11 event at Western Golf & Country Club will be donated to The Folds of Honor Foundation, which provides post-secondary educational scholarships for children and spouses of military service men and women killed or disabled while serving our great nation.
The Stars and Stripes Open is organized by the Folds of Honor Michigan, a group of men and women whose mission is to raise money for this very worthy cause.
“The Folds of Honor deserves our support, and the support of every American who wants to express his or her appreciation for what our military has done for us and continues to do every day all around the world,” said Robert Kunkel, an organizing founder of the Folds of Honor Michigan committee.
Joining Kunkel on the organizing committee is Bill Wright, another of the major contributors making this event possible.
“The Folds of Honor is something I feel strongly about,” Wright said. “If you go to only one charitable golf outing in 2011, make it this one. You’ll be glad you did.”
Major Ed Pulido is Senior VP of Program and Military Affairs for Folds of Honor. Major Pulido is a former soldier who had his leg amputated after encountering a roadside bomb in Iraq. Major Pulido’s two daughters are Folds of Honor scholarship recipients.
“This event alone will allow us to do so much to honor families for the sacrifice they’ve given us all,” said Major Pulido. “We’ll never be able to fully express our gratitude to service men and women but we will continue to do everything we can to make sure their story is told and their legacy lives on.
“We at Folds of Honor will never leave our service members and their families behind in the field of battle.”
(NOTE: Major Pulido is available for TV/radio and print interviews. Please contact the numbers below to arrange for an interview.)
Cost for the golf outing at the prestigious Western Golf & Country Club, with its classic and original Donald Ross golf course, is $125 a person/$500 a foursome. Prices include green fee, cart fee, range balls, a unique hors d’oerves dinner, special gifts, prizes and special gift. The post-golf portion of the event, including dinner, is $50.
A wide range of sponsorship opportunities are available. Those include sponsorship levels ranging from $10,000 to $1,000, which include golf participation.

In 2010, Patriot Golf Day and related activities raised a record of more than $3.3 million to benefit Folds of Honor, bringing the four-year total to more than $8.6 million, allowing the organization to distribute more than 1,600 scholarships to date. The total number of post-secondary educational scholarship recipients will surpass the 2,400 mark in 2011.
