Castle Pines, CO (May 26, 2011) – Jim Barnes, Awards Director of the Jenkins Group, Inc. announced yesterday that The Business of Golf – What Are You Thinking? won the 2011 Independent Publisher Bronze Medal Award in the Business, Career and Sales book category. The book, authored by James J. Keegan, Managing Principal of Golf Convergence, earlier received the 2010 Media Award for Outstanding Achievement by the International Network of Golf.

“Of 1,052,803 books published in the United States in 2010, 8,976 were focused on business, so receiving this recognition is very fulfilling, as our sole goal was to help golf course owners maximize their investment return” J. J. Keegan commented. “I am thrilled with the commercial and literary success of the book, which has now been purchased in 13 countries and adopted by the Professional Golf Management programs at Clemson University, the University of Wisconsin – Stout, Keiser University – College of Golf, and Holland College.”

The book is based on ground-breaking research, hard economic data, extensive field experience, and numerous client case studies in which eight key concepts that accurately predict the success of a golf course are revealed:

1. The age, income, ethnicity and population density within 10 miles of the course.
2. The number of playable days measured against the efficiency of management.
3. The integration of software to create actionable information.
4. Financial benchmarking of facility performance against peers.
5. Continual “appropriate” investment in course infrastructure, equipment and labor.
6. Ensuring the “assembly line” of customer touch points matches the desired experience intended: platinum, gold, silver, bronze or steel.
7. Understanding the golfers’ habits and preferences.
8. Evaluating and developing customer loyalty.

This book sheds light on virtually every aspect of golf course operations – strategic, tactical and operational. You’ll learn why some golf courses are successful while others flounder.

The Golf Convergence WIN™ formula taught in this textbook is an easy-to-follow method that has consistently increased the financial return of golf courses, and it greatly enhances the customer experience. Those golf course operators who have applied these lessons have increased their EBITDA by at least 12% within 12 months.

In an industry that is struggling, who can afford to ignore the findings of this book and the formula for success it presents?
