LAKE MARY, FL – If you know Mitch Laurance at all, you know how passionate he is about projects, relationships or causes in which he becomes involved. Case in point: The Know Your Score-Fight Prostate Cancer Celebrity Golf Tournament.
Laurance is in his fourth year as Host/Event & Celebrity Chair of this tournament, held the Saturday before the Golf.Com World Amateur Handicap Championship in Myrtle Beach each August.
Attracting such names as Syracuse basketball coach Jim Boeheim, actor Craig T. Nelson and commentator Jim Huber, the tournament has raised over $200,000. Just as importantly, it has provided hundreds of free prostate cancer screenings and generated awareness.
For his efforts surrounding that event, Laurance was awarded the ING Chi Chi Rodriguez Humanitarian Award last week at the 21st Annual ING Sprig Conference at Innisbrook Resort. The ING Chi Chi Rodriguez Humanitarian Award recognizes humanitarian acts by journalists. Nominees are selected by the ING staff and the ING Foundations Committee, chaired by 2010 recipient Ann Liguori.
The cause is close to the hearts of Mitch, his wife Ewa and family, as he faced his own battle with prostate cancer in 2002. His acceptance speech at the Tuesday Night Awards Banquet had tears flowing throughout the room.
The ING Spring Conference is conducted by the non-profit International Network of Golf. The annual gathering of media and business leaders was conducted at PGA Tour stop Innisbrook Resort near Tampa.
The ING Spring Conference featured four days of product presentation, networking, education, golf and business-building opportunities. The One-On One Appointment Show and the Demo Lab remained among the popular elements of this gathering of media and business leaders. This year’s event includes a Rock Legends concert featuring former Toto singer Bobby Kimball.
